A Friendly Reminder About E Bikes & Electric Motorcycles

The Clinton Township Police Department has shared an important update regarding electric bikes and electric motorcycles. In simple terms: not every electric “bike” is legally considered an e bike.

Allowed on sidewalks, trails, and bike paths:
  • E bikes with working pedals
  • Motor under 750 watts
  • Proper Class 1, 2, or 3 labeling
NOT allowed on sidewalks or trails:
  • Electric motorcycles like Sur Ron or Talaria style bikes
  • Bikes without pedals or with pegs only
  • High speed electric bikes that require registration and a license
A few additional reminders:
  • Helmets are required for riders under 18
  • Maximum speed on township trails/property is 10 MPH
  • Always yield to pedestrians and give warning before passing
Let’s work together to keep our neighborhood trails and sidewalks safe for everyone!
Rivergate Nature Trail

Motorized vehicles—including battery-operated or gas-powered scooters, e-bikes, and golf carts—are NOT PERMITTED on the trail. Additionally, please be aware that some portions of the trail are crumbling or uneven due to changes in the river’s course. We urge everyone to use caution while exploring these areas. Thank you for helping to keep our trail safe and enjoyable for all.
